Today, most people on the earth live a “turtle” life. Our eyes are on the earth, for good or for bad, and all of our concerns are similarly “earthy.” Whether we have too little money or more than enough, a life of “sin” or a good code of ethics, a low life or one of noble pursuit, none of these satisfy the emptiness inside us. In the end, the void in humanity is meant to be filled by only one thing: divinity.
The Lord gave human beings a spirit, a tuning fork that sounds with the Spirit. In other words, we meet Him by contacting the Spirit in our spirit; at that moment, something in the human resonates with the divine. This divine life we touch has no heaviness of earth, no brown stains of dirt, no stench of decay. It is the life of an eagle, able to soar with height, far above the gravity of the world. Whenever we touch our spirit, we touch this height. With our mind set on our spirit, we can even live in this height. In this way, this soaring, high, free life becomes our testimony. That is why the world has no power over us; the gravity of the earthly things cannot pull us down.
Since the beginning, we were meant to live at that height. Psalm 68:18 says, “You have ascended on high; You have led captive those taken captive; / You have received gifts among men, / Even the rebellious ones also, / That Jehovah God may dwell among them”; Ephesians 4:8 says, “Therefore the Scripture says, ‘Having ascended to the height, He led captive those taken captive and gave gifts to men’”; Acts 2:33 says, “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has poured out this which you both see and hear.” From the Old Testament to the New, His design for human beings has never faltered. Truth is truth. It is not changed; it is fulfilled. And this truth is the core and power that rings in our spirit, that lifts us up from the earth, that keeps us in flight. This ascended life is not far from us; it is accessed in our spirit.
Brothers and sisters, this is our testimony; it is our gospel. Who doesn’t admire an eagle? Who doesn’t admire a life lived far above all earthly ties? Don’t human beings deserve to soar? To experience the freedom of being filled with something we were meant to have? To be satisfied? What the human race needs is heaven — not tomorrow, but today! Entering into this eternal truth is the salvation of every human being.
Knowing this, we should see that as the Lord’s people, the truth we carry within us is precious; it is expensive. Matthew 13:45-46 tells us that a merchant who knows the value of a fine pearl will sell everything else to obtain it. Today, do we recognize the value of this life? Or are we cheap, so easy to tumble to the earth at the slightest pull of worldly gravity? In our humanity, there is a power we all have. If we recognize it, we can live out this never-changing, ever-living truth that is the Spirit in our spirit. There is, indeed, a free, bright, ascended life that releases us from the bondage of the earthen things — that frees us to live a life that soars above.
